Valley Queen Cheese Factory converts high-quality milk into a variety of natural cheeses, dried lactose, dried whey, and anhydrous milk fat that is marketed and utilized by private label and nationally branded consumer food companies. Valley Queen was founded in 1929 and is located in Milbank, SD.


Position Summary 

This position ensures efficient software operation and utilization so that end users can accomplish business tasks. This includes receiving, prioritizing, documenting and actively resolving escalated end user help requests for various applications. This position will be responsible for working to design, develop, implement, integrate and support the company’s custom and out-of-the-box applications. This person is also responsible for defining, documenting, and implementing industry best practices and standards.

Essential Functions

  • Assist, support and work with end users, software developers and vendors to find ways to utilize software and technology more effectively and securely.
  • Research, explore, evaluate and test new software and business solutions that align with company goals and priorities.
  • Participate in planning, design, technical review, implementation and training for new application deployments.
  • Ensure operation by training personnel, preparing training manuals, knowledge base and providing support to end users.
  • Assist with the maintenance of existing business applications including new installations and updates.
  • Assist with correcting data integrity within applications.
  • Validate results by testing programs.
  • Understand and contribute to department’s level two scorecard.
  • Maintain highest level of confidentiality with all company information.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.  This position is also responsible to be on call on a rotating five-week schedule which will include evening and weekend work.


Occasional overnight travel may be necessary for training.

Physical Demands

The physical demands for this position are mainly able to do sedentary work. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently will need to sit, stand, walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Required Education, Experience & Certifications

Equivalent to completion of two years of college-level coursework in computer science, information technology or a related field. Strong knowledge of standard IT practices and workflows. Must be able to learn and understand business processes as they relate to application usage, internal controls, security and technology.

Preferred Education, Experience & Certifications

Bachelor's degree in information technology or related coursework or equivalent combination of education and/or specific work-related experience. Experience in system engineering, IT support, PC networks, software and hardware are preferred. Bilingual in English/Spanish.
